About the role

Syntony tests AI systems and helps organizations decide what to do with the results. Our work brings together AI evaluation, security, and governance.

You will work directly alongside the founder to help build Syntony’s network of clients and partners across industries. From researching a promising organization to joining a conversation and shaping the follow-up, you will see how an early-stage company earns trust and turns ideas into collaborations.

This is an opportunity to contribute while the company is taking shape: bring ideas, take ownership of focused projects, and help us discover where our work can make the greatest difference. You will gain practical experience in business development, client relationships, and the commercial side of AI.

What you will do

  • Discover prospective clients and partners across industries, research their priorities, and identify where Syntony can help.
  • Work with the founder on thoughtful outreach, introductions, meeting briefs, and clear explanations of Syntony’s work.
  • Participate in client and partner conversations, capture what matters, and help turn discussions into concrete next steps.
  • Build relationships through relevant events, university connections, and opportunities across the Triangle and beyond.
  • Keep contact records and follow-ups organized so promising conversations continue to move forward.
  • Bring ideas for new markets, partnerships, and ways to communicate the value of AI evaluation and governance.

What you bring

  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate program, with a base or college in the Raleigh–Durham–Chapel Hill area.
  • Availability to commit 10 hours per week, with flexibility for agreed in-person collaboration in the Triangle.
  • Strong writing, research, and organizational skills, with careful attention to detail.
  • Comfort communicating professionally, asking questions, and following through on commitments.
  • A demonstrated interest in business and/or technology, such as entrepreneurship, marketing, sales, partnerships, product development, software, or AI.
  • Curiosity about customer needs and how technology creates value for organizations, with a willingness to learn about AI evaluation, security, and governance.
  • Comfort with—or willingness to learn—spreadsheets, presentations, and tools for researching organizations and tracking contacts and outreach.

Your interest can come from coursework, projects, student organizations, internships, part-time work, volunteering, or self-directed learning. We welcome concrete examples of curiosity, initiative, and follow-through, wherever you have developed them.

Helpful background includes business, economics, marketing, entrepreneurship, computer science, engineering, or data-related courses; customer-facing work; market research; sales or outreach; organizing events; or building a product or technical project. These are examples, not prerequisites. Students from any major are welcome, and prior formal business development experience is not required.

Room to learn and grow

Work directly with the founder, learn through real client and partner conversations, and see how your contributions shape the company’s next steps. As your experience grows, there is room to take on greater responsibility and help shape your role.

There is potential for this internship to grow into a full-time role as Syntony develops, depending on mutual fit, your contribution, and business needs.

Flexibility and perks

10 hours per week, with a stipend, coworking perks, and flexible hours around your classes. The role is hybrid, combining remote work with in-person collaboration in the Raleigh–Durham–Chapel Hill area.

The stipend amount and payment schedule, coworking arrangements, internship dates, and weekly schedule will be discussed with the selected candidate and confirmed in writing before acceptance.

Course credit. We can work with your college or university to support course credit or internship requirements, including coordinating learning objectives, documentation, and supervisor evaluations. Credit is subject to your institution’s approval and requirements. Please share any relevant requirements and deadlines when applying.
