What you will lead

Syntony evaluates, red teams, and helps govern advanced systems, including AI. AI is changing both attack and defense in cybersecurity, and the stakes are highest where digital systems run energy, water, communications, transportation, and financial services. Our work in this area includes advising a leading global bank on cyber risks from advanced AI models.

You will set the program’s direction with the founder and work alongside our Head of Red Teaming, Head of Research Strategy and Evaluations, and Program Lead, National Security.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and run Syntony’s cyber and critical infrastructure program, setting priorities, offerings, and milestones with the founder.
  • Build relationships with critical infrastructure operators, cybersecurity firms, AI developers, sector information-sharing organizations, and government agencies.
  • Lead proposals and scope evaluation, red teaming, and governance engagements on AI-enabled cyber risk and on AI used in critical infrastructure.
  • Shape Syntony’s defensive work on AI cyber capabilities, including evaluations, safeguards, and the responsible handling of sensitive findings.
  • Translate technical findings into recommendations for security leaders, operators, regulators, and executives.
  • Track threat, policy, and regulatory developments that affect how AI is used and secured in critical infrastructure.
  • Represent Syntony at briefings, conferences, and working groups, and contribute to our research and publications.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in cybersecurity, critical infrastructure security, industrial control system security, or a closely related field.
  • Working knowledge of AI and how it changes attack and defense.
  • Experience in at least one critical infrastructure sector, or with operational technology environments.
  • Experience with business development, proposals, or program management for government or industry clients.
  • Ability to brief senior leaders clearly and to write for technical and policy audiences alike.
  • Comfort working through ambiguity at an early-stage company and building a program from a small base.
  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain a security clearance.

An active or prior clearance is useful, as is offensive security or red team experience. We assess demonstrated work and judgment; a graduate degree is not required.

Hours and compensation

This role can be part-time or full-time. Syntony is scaling, so we will shape the role around your availability and what the work needs. We will agree a weekly commitment and scope before you start and revisit them as the company grows.

The role comes with generous cash compensation and equity, which we will discuss in the initial interview. Final terms will be agreed in writing before work begins.

U.S. citizenship is required because this role covers critical infrastructure and national security work that calls for eligibility for a U.S. security clearance. The position is remote.

Benefits

The role also comes with a generous startup benefits package, including a monthly health and wellbeing stipend, WiFi and phone reimbursement, travel and commuter benefits, a monthly compute budget, and coworking privileges. Read more about our culture and benefits.
