Syntony welcomes Vamsi Krishna Munjuluri as its inaugural AI Engineering Fellow. The fellowship runs from November 2026 to May 2027. Vamsi will work directly with founder Nathan Heath on a technical research project in agent evaluation.

Vamsi is a research master’s student at Mila and Université de Montréal, where he is finishing a thesis on LLM agents that write and tune HVAC controllers for buildings.

Checking the evaluation first

Much of his thesis work turned out to be debugging the evaluation itself. In one case, a scoring window was short enough to make an unstable controller look like the best one. He is now building tools that separate what the model is doing from what the evaluation harness is doing in agent evals.

That habit of questioning a result before trusting it stood out throughout the selection process. In the final round, candidates examined a synthetic evaluation result and wrote a short memo on what the evidence did and did not support.

About the fellowship

The Syntony Engineering Fellowship is a selective, part-time program for graduate students and people who have completed graduate study. Each fellow owns a defined project in AI evaluation or governance, works directly with Syntony’s founder, and finishes with a technical artifact they can point to.
