Research Affiliates Program

Project-based collaboration on governance and risk research. We build a network of researchers, security specialists, and policy practitioners who do work that lands in a decision.

What this program is

Syntony collaborates with researchers, security specialists, and policy practitioners on a project basis. Affiliates contribute to publications, co-author research, and gain visibility through our work with frontier labs, public sector clients, and enterprise deployments.

This is not a fellowship and not a job board. It is a network we draw on when a research question needs a specific kind of expertise and when an expert wants their work to ship into governance, evaluation, or risk decisions rather than sit on a preprint server.

Project-based collaboration

Scoped projects with co-authorship, attribution, and a clear deliverable. Compensation aligned to scope.

Methodology-first

We focus on evaluation methodology, governance architecture, policy analysis, and strategic risk forecasting. Work that compounds.

Visibility through publication

Affiliates publish under their own name. Syntony provides editorial support, distribution, and access to client problems.

Decision-relevant outputs

Research is scoped so the result can be picked up by a reviewer, regulator, or operator and acted on.

Research focus areas

Where we collaborate

Red Teaming Methodology & Tooling

Evaluation design, threat modeling, evidence taxonomies, and the tooling that makes adversarial work reproducible.

Governance Architecture

Decision rights, escalation triggers, control libraries, and the structures that make oversight actually function.

Policy & International Security

Translating evaluation findings and risk evidence into policy artifacts that hold up in front of a regulator or counterpart.

AI Risk Forecasting

Scenario design, capability trajectories, and the integration of evaluation evidence into forward-looking risk models.

Synthetic Media & IHL

Synthetic media incidents, verification workflows, and the international humanitarian law questions they raise.

Systems & Feedback Intelligence

Causal mapping, system dynamics, and the feedback structures behind real-world AI deployments.
